Three Years Haiku

I borrowed this from a blog I love:

You knelt, knee in the
cold, and with only stars who
watched us, I spoke yes.

Another example of how a picture (or pictures) is worth a thousand words!

What's in a name?

So I know my posting has been sporadic, but in my defense I've also been writing over at Empowering LDS Women as one of the main authors :). Anyway this week I wrote a piece about dropping my maiden name and taking Jordan's surname.... which has been an interesting process for me. I could summarize, but if you're interested just head over here and check it out. And feel free to leave comments there!

Also, today Jordan and I celebrated our third anniversary of being married! Well, really we celebrated last weekend because we knew today would be busy with school. It was good that we did that too-- today I woke up really not feeling well. I went to school anyway, and kept feeling worse as the day went on. By the time I got to my fourth class (4/5, Mondays are busy), I was really starting to feel like I'd better head home. But it's one of my harder classes, so I wanted to go and make sure I didn't miss anything. Not an awesome idea. I ended up almost passing out, and had to get up and leave class to go lay on some chairs in the hall so I wouldn't faint/throw up. Not sure why I felt the combined feeling of nausea and lightheadedness at the same time, but that's what happened. Anyway I got excused from class and Jordan came to pick me up from school. I crashed hard and slept for four hours... thanks to the awesome eye covers Jord got me for my birthday (they were kind of a joke, but I LOVE them... lol what a sleeping snob). When I woke up I worked on a paper for my history class, and then Jordan came home with flowers and chicken soup in hand. What a man. Anyway, I had already decided I'd keep him, but getting taken care of today on our anniversary really drove it home :). Through thick and thin, right? Being married is the greatest. Well, mostly being married to Jordan is the greatest.

On a happier note, we were able to hang out with our friends Aaron and Tiffany last weekend (my really good friends from high school that got married). We went to Color Me Mine and had a blast staying up late talking afterwards. Jordan had to hit the sack earlier, but the three of us sat up gabbing for hours (2:45am I think... probably didn't help with my getting sick situation!). It was worth it though :).

On Saturday morning Jordan ran his first triathlon, and creamed it! His physical therapy boss offered to pay for his entrance fee kind of at the last minute, so he had just over a week to train. Luckily he's a crazy person that was already training for a marathon, so he was in great shape. He ended up taking 2nd in his age group, 3rd overall, and easily ran the fastest 5k splits at 5:35. Not bad for a first attempt!

Before, in the freezing weather

I can't tell you how much his form has improved... haha!

One of his buddies met with him in the morning all week
to train and improve his swimming. Miracle worker!

End of the bike-- check out those gorgeous mountains!

In transition

The Perry padres! So supportive. It was fun to have them there with me :)

Finish line!

The whole gang

What a hunky champ :)

if I were a bird

I'd sing all the time and everyone would love it! Sadly, for now I sing mostly by myself and if someone else hears, they try to pretend they didn't ;). Lol no that's a little dramatic, but having a perma-smoker voice all the time makes it hard to have a range or control. But seriously, I was busy standing in some other line in heaven because I apparently wasn't standing in the singing line. My mistake! In the next life, I am ready to stand in line all day if that's what it takes (and you can ask Jordan, I hate lines) in order to be one of those people who can really communicate through song. My gosh, I wish I were one. And if I were, I'd want to sound kind of like myself, the raw/raspy thing, but more controlled and clear, like one of these ladies:

Adele, Someone Like You (skip to 1:00 if you just want to hear the song)

Brandi Carlile, The Story

I love both these songs. Both such beautiful stories (literally in the second one ;). Brandi Carlile is a bit more of the rocker scene... but I like it! So much uninhibited emotion. As for Adele... I seriously don't even know what to say. I cried the first time I heard that song. It's so beautiful and I think her raw, straightforward voice is so moving. Music really is something else.
